Is the radiation level of X-rays high?
With advancements in technology, the amount of radiation used by X-ray machines has significantly decreased. Although the dose is quite low—equivalent to the natural radiation received over three days in a sunny area—we further reduce this exposure in our hospital by using special lead aprons.
When is a panoramic X-ray taken?
Panoramic films are necessary to detect cysts in the jaws, infections at the tips of tooth roots, bone loss, and cavities between the teeth.
How is a panoramic jaw X-ray taken?
After removing all metal accessories and removable prostheses near the patient’s head and neck area, a protective lead apron is placed on the patient. The X-ray machine rotates around the stationary patient in less than a minute to complete the process.
What is dental tomography?
Dental tomography provides three-dimensional images that deliver more detailed and accurate information than regular X-rays. Tooth and bone tissues can be analyzed more thoroughly, minimizing the margin of error in treatments.
Should a tomography scan be taken before a dental implant treatment?
Tomography can be performed after a panoramic X-ray in patients whose tooth and bone tissues need more detailed analysis.
Can pregnant women have a jaw X-ray?
Unless it is an emergency and absolutely necessary, any type of X-ray is not recommended during pregnancy.
